Students develop a deep understanding of the science matter knowledge concerning a particular research field. They are able to apply this knowledge and develop an Inquiry Base Science Education (IBSE) teaching program. They demonstrate these abilities while practically teaching in selected secondary and high school classes.
Science matter knowledge
Students have the opportunity to choose from the following research field: vegetation ecology (germination strategies), plant physiology, limnology (measurement of water quality indicators); molecular ecology (ecological effects of rapid rising temperature on alpine Drosophila), Zoology (zebra fish as model organism), Microbiology (bioreactors) and learn about various aspects of this particular topic while working in a 4 weeks research project.
Pedagogical content knowledge
Learning theories (constructivism, behaviorism), Scientific Literacy, teaching methods applied in Inquiry based Science Education (IBSE), Nature of Science, scientific writing;
Project work, lecture, working in small groups, teaching in class
Compulsory attendance, scientific report and 15´presentation of this report, 15´presentation about the teaching program and relevant experiences
