They are able to describe the main themes of Islamic metaphysics as a foundation for understanding Islamic philosophy.
Furthermore they are able to identify essential phases of Islamic intellectual history by implementing their insight into the most vital works of Islamic philosophers, the special knowledge of philosophical terminology as well as philosophical schools with their traditional Islamic core themes.
This lecture deals with central themes, terminology as well as contents of Islamic philosophy. It offers an introduction of the intellectual currents and conventional opinions of philosophy in the Islamic world.
Thereby an encompassing insight is given into the life and works of chosen representatives of Islamic philosophy into the present times. Furthermore, the development of metaphysics within Islamic intellectual history is being analyzed. Based on this a couple of aspects of the controversy between Islamic theology and philosophy are being discussed.
Systematic analysis with regard to the historic development respectively the life works of philosophical scholars and other chosen texts.
