Acquisition of basic knowledge for structuring short-term and long-term processes and correlations of events as well as knowledge on reflexive analysis for generating historic knowledge including questions on issues and methods used in the field of ancient history.

This course provides an insight into three central areas of ancient daily life history: birth, marriage and death in various cultures of the ancient Mediterranean world. These three essential biographical stages were of collective social relevance and were shaped ritually.

Drawing on various source materials (literary, epigraphic, archaeological), the ideas, worries, expectations, values and - as far as possible - the related life practices surrounding these biographical events are addressed.

Lecture and presentation of facts, results of research and scholarly debates, discussion and collaborative critical analyses of sources.
