The acquisition of basic skills in dealing with ancient sources.
Greek and Latin inscriptions do not only inform historians about political history (e.g. wars, deeds of emperors etc.), but also hand down informations of daily life (e.g. work, death, social structure etc.). In this tutorial we will work with the original inscriptions in the so-called "Raum der Schrift" in the Zentrum für Alte Kulturen (Seminarraum 5, Langer Weg 11). The analysis will create an awareness for the worth of inscriptiosn as tools for historians.
Combination of lecture, reading tasks, exercises and a final essay.
Participation and final essay
Relevant literature will be announced during the course.
