UE Historical Excursion: Northern Italy: Roman and Medieval as early Modern History

Being able to question a historical landscape after having used pertinent material.

We read and scrutinize sources as well as pertinent articles and books: Overview on the history of Northern Italy from the Roman expansion to the Lombards, from the Bishop of Rome as the largest landowner in Italy already in the 4th century until Charlemagne's inauguration as emperor in Rome, from the question of 'Celtic' and Roman identity to the exarchate of Ravenna.

 

Lecture, discussion, instruction for the tasks.

Oral presentation at the excursion and written paper on the selected topic.

Will be announced in the first unit.

Students of the BA History (603) will receive the ECTS-Credits as given in their curriculum.
