Based on selected documents and literature, this course conveys insights into sources and research debates about the history of rural societies in the seventeenth to nineteenth centuries.
Reading, analysis and discussion of sources and secondary literature; group work; short presentations by students

As primers: Prass Reiner, Grundzüge der Agrargeschichte, Bd. 2: Vom Dreißigjährigen Krieg bis zum Beginn der Moderne (1650-1880), Köln u.a. 2016; Troßbach, Werner / Zimmermann, Clemens, Die Geschichte des Dorfes. Von den Anfängen im Frankenreich zur bundesdeutschen Gegenwart, Stuttgart 2006. A bibliography will be provided at the beginning of the course.
Online registration necessary! Willingness to read English texts is expected. Before attending this course it is recommended to complete the VO Basic Knowledge of Modern History.
