Early modern Europe was characterised by a remarkable variety of political systems, which manifested itself, among others, in different strategies of representation. This course will therefore consider the structural features, programmatic legitimations and visual promotion of authority with respect to selected examples. In doing so, we will also exercise basic historical methods and forms of presentation.
Reading and discussion of sources and secondary literature; thematic presentations; group work
Regular and active participation; oral presentation; written final paper

W., The Culture of Power and the Power of Culture: Old Regime Europe 1660-1789, Oxford 2002; Gallus, Alexander / Jesse Eckhard (Eds.), Staatsformen: Modelle politischer Ordnung von der Antike bis zur Gegenwart. Ein Handbuch, Köln u.a. 2004. A bibliography will be provided at the beginning of the course.
Positive assessment of compulsory module 1! The respective proof ought to be produced until the end of april 2022.
