From the late sixteenth century onwards, Great Britain and German-speaking Central Europe increasingly veered away from each other in structural terms. Historians thus often regard them as opposed models of development, and it has long been assumed that mutual exchange slackened as a result. However, more recent studies have established a considerable degree of perceptions, interactions and entanglements between the two politico-social spaces also in the period after 1600. The ensuing reinterpretation of early modern British-German relations, its methodological approaches and empirical insights form the focus of this seminar.
