Acquisition of skills for a critical handling of historical sources and descriptions in Austrian History and of an adequate competence in presenting this knowledge in written and oral form

Probate inventories were created after a person's death and were theoretically supposed to record all of the deceased person's property: Including, among other things, real estate holdings, cash assets, jewelry, clothing, furniture, tools, and goods, as well as assets and liabilities. In this course, we will explore different uses of this source genre through shared reading and discussion. In addition, we will read into an inventory and transcribe parts of it.

Guided reading; reading and discussion of relevant literature; transcription exercises.

Regular attendance (course immanent to the examination with compulsory attendance); participation (especially: preparation of the compulsory readings, contributions to the discussion); several smaller written assignments; presentation/moderation of one of the discussed texts in a small group or individually (depending on the LV group size). The mode of examination will be explained in more detail in the first unit of the course.

Will be announced in class
