Acquisition of competences in dealing with historical sources and secondary literature on Economic and Social History as well as the ability to present the newly-acquired knowledge in oral or written form; the acquisition of awareness and the use of relevant scientific methods; acquisition of an awareness of the forms of historical self-display and the ability to present historical relationships on-site.

Family history is more than just a genealogical family tree. Individual family histories contain social and cultural structures, which we will explore in the proseminar. We will examine different family forms (extended family, whole house, nuclear family) and analyze the different forms of living together. Marriage norms play just as important a role as reproduction and the transfer of property. However, we will also turn our gaze to forms of living that lay outside the classical image of the family and include unmarried population groups, single mothers, illegitimate children as well as the phase of widowhood in our discussions.

Input presentations of the teacher, group work, discussion of literature, oral and written presentations.

Course with continuous performance assessment: attendance at all sessions, regular and active participation in discussions, readings and short assignments, oral presentation and written paper.

To be announced in the course
