716006 VO Fundamentals of Human Geography 1: New Cultural Geographies "and Beyond": Recent Cross-sectional Topics in Human Geography
summer semester 2022 | Last update: 10.03.2022 | Place course on memo listStudents will gain an insight into selected new theoretical-methodological approaches and thematic fields of New Cultural Geography and further cross-sectional approaches. The lecture raises awareness of the diversity of perspectives and discusses their advantages and limits for the investigation of the relationship between humans, society and space as well as for the understanding of socio-political (power) structures and processes in space.
The lecture also addresses consequences for “everyday lifeworlds” of these perspectives - among other for the school context, so that this lecture addresses BSc and BEd students (of course also “Wahlfach” MSc and MEd students) equally.
In addition to the discussion of the differences between the perspectives of cultural geography and "New Cultural Geography", more recent interdisciplinary approaches will be presented and compared. Sessions include topics such as: discourse, power and space (poststructuralism and discourse-theoretical research), imaginative geographies, hybrid and intersectional identities (postcolonial approaches), bodily practices and performativity (non-representational approaches), cultural diversity and difference (geographies of encounter and difference), gender and space (feminist and post-feminist geographies).
