The main methods of snow hydrological work are theoretically prepared and subsequently practiced in the field.

The main elements of snow hydrology (e.g., the energy and mass balance of a snowpack, metamorphosis processes, seasonal melt and runoff dynamics) as well as applied human-environment aspects (avalanche science, technical snowmaking, hydropower) are presented. The exercise includes snow measurements in the field (albedo, density, snow water equivalent) and excursions to selected locations.

By imparting theoretical knowledge, an introduction to snow hydrological work is given. The measuring methods will be presented and applied in the field as part of a practical exercise. Several thematic blocks on snow hydrology in human-environment systems will be treated in theory and deepened through site inspections with expert discussions. In concrete case studies, the methods are finally applied in the context of exercises.

The performance of the students will be assessed in the course, i.e., by the submission of exercises on the individual topic blocks as well as the active participation in the theory and practice sessions.
