Students understand the basic processes and consequences of global change and can evaluate analytically the complex interactions between society and environment.

The excursion will lead us to Germany's capital Berlin. Focussing on backgrounds of the so-called "start-up boom", that is entangled with processes of digitisation (Smart City Berlin) and local placemaking.

Furthermore, participants will learn processes of gentrification that are interlinked with aforesaid phenomena as well as subaltern reactions crystallizing in an appeal to a "right to the city" (Lefebvre). This will be exemplified in selected urban quarters and social movements (e.g. #besetzen) and suppressed "Kiezläden im Asyl".
