The seminar has the following 4 objectives: (1) to become familiar with the implementation modalities of internet-based interventions; (2) to become familiar with internet-based intervention concepts for the treatment of increased stress and two selected mental disorders (affective disorders and anxiety disorders); (3) to become familiar with the status of current evidence on the effectiveness of these intervention concepts; and (4) participate and reflect on the experiences made in two unguided, internet-based stress-management trainings.

Clinical psychological treatment concepts used in internet-based interventions in research and practice are presented. These concepts focus on the reduction of increased stress and the treatment of depression and anxiety. Furthermore, two common implementation modalities (guided/unguided) and ethical principles for the implementation of internet-based interventions will be discussed. In addition, the current state of research (evidence of effectiveness) will be presented. Another focus will be to explore the state of usage of internet-based interventions in people across the full lifespan. Finally, possible effects of two unguided, smartphone-based stress-management trainings (the thought protocol and an emotion regulation training) will be experienced first-hand by practicing each daily for 14 days. These experiences will be critically reflected in a seminar paper.

The teaching methods include lectures and presentations; a transfer of theoretical knowledge is made possible by practical exercises (daily application of the stress management trainings over 14 days each); a written reflection on one's own experiences with internet-based stress-management trainings complements the seminar.

Assessment based on regular written and oral contributions of participants; one-time presentation; participation in two 14-day stress-management trainings; theory- and practice-guided reflection on the training experiences in a seminar paper.
