Advanced theoretical insight into the field of many-body physics, in particular in the classical field theoretical description of fluids and solids; ability to independently gain advanced knowledge in the field.

Continuum limit; scalar, tensor and vector fields; general coordinates and transformations; elasticity; fluid stress tensor; conservation equations; Euler / Navier-Stokes equations; (in)compressibility; waves in fluids and solids; flows and vortices; thermal convection; instabilities; micro and active fluids, nano droplets; computational fluid dynamics.

Lecture presentation and practical (theoretical and numerical) exercises.

Combined written and immanent assessment

Will be announced during the course. (For example: Thorne/Blandford, Modern Classical Physics, Princeton University Press, 2017.)

No prerequisites; can be taken independently from other courses (also as elective module).
