Upon successful completion of the course, students understand how to use git and GitLab for versioning and management of (programming) projects. They are able to apply learned skills to their own projects.

The course covers essential git commands required for version control of individual or team projects for writing programs or textual documents. It shows how to apply GitLab to manage projects and organize knowledge. The concepts are presented from the practical perspective in the context of digital science projects.

The course consists of short lectures introducing necessary background knowledge. Followed by demonstrations and hands-on tutorials. The new skills are to be regularly applied on example (own) projects.

Course assessment is based on an active participation and evidence of applying learned skills to (own) projects. There are no examinations nor explicit homework. The evaluation is binary: pass/fail (de: Mit Erfolg teilgenommen/Ohne Erfolg teilgenommen).

None.

This course provides skills required in modules of the minor Digital Science, where programming (team) projects are conducted, especially in the Introduction to Data Management and Data Analysis Lab; and optionally in Introduction to Programming. Students from nontechnical study programmes are especially welcomed.

This course is not a part of the minor Digital Science.
