winter semester 2022/2023 | Last update: 12.10.2022 | Place course on memo listBasic knowledge of the history of ancient and medieval philosophy in its relevance for contemporary philosophy, with a focus on epistemology, metaphysics, ontology, philosophy of nature, philosophy of religion, anthropology and political philosophy.
Overview of core topics and prominent thinkers of ancient and medieval philosophy (Presocratics, Plato, Aristotle, Hellenistic philosophy, Neoplatonism, Augustine, Christian-neoplatonic developments in the early Middle Ages, Receptioln of Aristotle under the influence of arabic and jewish philosophers, Roger Bacon, Bonaventure, Aquinas, Duns Scotus, Ockham, Marsilius of Padua, Petrarca, Nicolaus of Kues, Reception of Platonic philosophy under Marsilio Ficino and Giovanni Pico della Mirandola, Influences of jewish cabbala.
