Some imagine Satan as a horned devil, the streaming series casts him as a quite likable, though egomaniacal bon vivant. According to R. Girard’s theory he is a social mechanism, which rules this world in mythology and politics, unless it is overcome. That, Girard claims, occurred in Christ’s passion. His theory sheds light on notions as salvation through the cross, religious sacrifice, and modernity’s concern for victims.
