winter semester 2022/2023 | Last update: 05.10.2022 | Place course on memo listCritical discussion of ethical and religio-political questions concerning democracy.
This lecture reflects first on the contribution of Christianity to the development of modern democracy. In a second step it discusses anthropological and religio-political dimensions of the idea of equality in the light Girard's mimetic theory. A third part is dedicated to concrete ethical questions of contemporary democracy (popular sovereignty, separation of powers, principle of majority rule, populism, etc.). A concluding part investigates the relationship between Church and democracy (Church and state; democracy within the Church).
