222912 SE Seminar for Doctoral Students: Religion and fraternity: A Muslim-Christian Dialogue Perspective
winter semester 2022/2023 | Last update: 18.07.2022 | Place course on memo listCritical examination of the relationship between religion and fraternity in the framework of the Muslim-Christian Dialogue.
Contemporary challenges in our world necessitate fraternity on a global level. At the same time sibling rivalry is a main cause of human violence. With all this in mind this seminar focuses on fraternity in regard to Christian-Muslim relations. We reflect on fraternity in the Bible and the Qur’an, look at historical examples like Al-Ghazzālī and Francis of Assisi, deal with contemporary understandings of it in both these religious traditions and conclude with a reflection on two recent documents that express the wish to strengthen fraternity between Christians and Moslems (“Human Fraternity for World Peace and Living together”, 2019; “Fratelli tutti”, 2020).
Text reading with discussion, inputs of externa experts, and presentation by the students.
