223050 UE Homiletics
winter semester 2022/2023 | Last update: 21.03.2023 | Place course on memo listStudents engage in a homiletically guided and theologically reflective preaching experience.
"Preaching means letting God have his say in such a way that something can change." (Rolf Zerfass). This statement by a Catholic 'old master' of homiletics (= teaching of preaching) shows that it is about more than mere pulpit talk. For whoever preaches well will also do good theology - at the university as well as at the place of work: in the parish, in the school or elsewhere. Preaching is theology on the ground of one's own existence - with one's own language and at the height of one's own time. Like theology, it is a spiritual adventure that leads into the creative differences between Scripture and the present. From this inspiring tension, it seeks to weave together the great narratives of the Bible and the small stories of everyday life: "We must let the Word of God speak today." (M.-Dominique Chenu). If this succeeds, what Cornelia Funke describes in her trilogy of novels Inkheart can happen in the sermon: an old book begins to live and we ourselves begin to play a role in it.
Plenary phases as well as tutorially accompanied small groups; trial sermon with homiletic preparation and evaluation.
