Students acquire basic knowledge of the functioning of the Austrian political system with the help of concrete case study examples

This course is an introduction to the principles and functions of political institutions and processes at the national level. Selceted topics include the characteristics od democracy in the Second Republic in comparative crossnational perspective, aspects of the quality of democracy; parties and elections; the executive branch and relations between the branches; the ways in which the Austrian polity responses to international challenges such as migration, political extremism and representational gaps.

Run in seminar-style following introductory lecture given by instructor.
