Curr. 2021 § 5 (1) 2: Students are able to understand sociological issues, to limit research questions, to construct hypotheses, to find the necessary literature and to quote it correctly. Moreover, they understand to apply these skills in a written work, to reproduce the discussion of the research subject and to develop an individual argumentation.  

This seminar serves as an introduction into the methods of social sciences and its textual representations to make students familiar with various aspects of scientific work. The course addresses the acquaintance and practical handling of pivotal techniques of „reading-writing-talking-discussing“ of scientific texts. The students get familiar with scientific inquiries (esp. scientific literature), citing, articulating a research question, the development of scientific argumentation and the presentation of scientific findings. On the other hand there will be occasions to exercise talks and critique of decisive scientific theories and practices in social research.

Interactive course work, discussions and work assignements.

Continuous assessment (based on regular written and/or oral contribution by participants) and written final assignment (essay).
