winter semester 2022/2023 | Last update: 19.07.2023 | Place course on memo listCurr. 2021 § 5 (1) 15: This module serves to gain in-depth knowledge in selected subject areas of sociology. The students specialise in one or more subject(s) and acquire in-depth knowledge in them.
This course focuses on the sociology of work. We look at the origins and development of the discipline as well as its central questions: What is work? How do working conditions and labour relations change? How are social change and labour relations related? How do labour relations affect the individual? What role do economic and political actors play? How does work affect our social coexistence?
These central questions will be addressed in the course on the basis of different topics, such as the definition of work and the understanding of employment, the labour market, the structural change of labour, the subjectification of work or the organisation of work.
In order to understand basic concepts and discourses of the sociology of work, we will take different theoretical perspectives and examine the practical implementation of studies in the field.
Lecture with discussion, active participation and anticipated readings are necessary
Active participation and contribution, written assignments.
