The students understand basic educational concepts and basic theoretical approaches as well as the main lines of the history of educational science. On the basis of this knowledge they are able to differentiate the everyday understanding of pedagogical processes from a scientific point of view. They have a basic understanding of historical and more recents discussions on "education" and “Bildung”. They are able to recognise current educational matters and identify academic discourses about it.

In the lecture, the necessity of education will first be explored, followed by the opening of speaking about education in science. On the basis of theoretical discussions about education, education and institutions, insights into systematic and current issues in educational science are given. The lecture connects the topics with concise notes on the teaching and research areas of educational science at LFUI.
