Introduction to issues and problems of Literary Studies
Whether they are addressed to history, to a conceivable future, or to other possible worlds – the questions “What if...?” or “What would have happened if...?” form the starting point of manifold thought experiments dedicated to alternatives to conventional knowledge. The interdisciplinary lecture series of the Research Area “Cultural Encounters – Cultural Conflicts” addresses questions of this kind from the perspective of different scientific disciplines, which make use of the imaginative potential of thinking in alternatives or put it into question. The lectures (partly by internal, partly by external contributors) cover a wide range of topics: Computer Games Research, European Ethnology, Film Studies, Gender Studies, History, History of Art, Linguistics, Mathematics, Political Science, Psychology, Law, Theology, Comparative Literature, and Publishing.
