Insights into the essential role of language in politics and the media. To this aim, gaining of knowledge about and understanding of:

  • on the one hand, political institutions (polity), political procedures (politics) an political contents (policy),
  • and on the other hand, the way language functions at these different levels.

The basics of political science, plus a more profound understanding of some special areas of politics (especially, political theory and international politics); studying those areas of linguistics that are relevant for the understanding of political texts and of the media (morphosyntax, lexicology, pragmatics, argumentation/rhetorics).

Lecture, plus students' presentations of some special areas.

'students' presentations, homework, written exam

will be given in class

The seminar (SE) from the same module of the MA programme "Romance Studies" will be offered in the summer term 2023.
