612010 VU Introduction to Slavic Linguistics
winter semester 2022/2023 | Last update: 07.11.2022 | Place course on memo listYou have acquired knowledge on the principles of linguistics, covering the disciplines of phonetics, phonology, syntax, semantics and morphology. You are able to apply the techniques upon the Slavic languages that you study.
This lecture will give an introduction into slavonic linguistics, an important module of Slavonic Studies.
We will discuss the different structural layers of language and how they are reflected in the Slavic languages. One focus therein will lie in the diversity that can be observed within the Slavic languages and which are the result of a multitude of historical processes.
We will acquire techniques of structural language description and comparative analysis to apply them upon modern and historical texts. We will do so not only adopting the synchronic, but also the diachronic perspective, that is, examine how the Slavic languages have changed across time.
