The students acquire profound factual knowledge and specialized knowledge of the current state of research on recent and latest art history

The current decolonisation debates are not without impact on the methods of art and image history. Only recently, the Rembrandt exhibition at the Museum Barberini (Potsdam) caused a sensation by questioning a Eurocentric view and subjecting Rembrandt's 'Orientalisms' to a new interpretation. The seminar wants to adopt similar perspectives, examine early modern art production for representations and interpretations of the 'Other' and attempt new interpretations. It is important to consider colonialism and Eurocentrism, which continue to shape our gaze today
