Learning about the history and present of the schools of Islamic thought, as well as their ideas and starting points in the context of Islamic philosophical and mystical schools

Early in Islamic history, religious movements have emerged because of political and theological disagreements. This led to divisions of the religious community. As a result, various theological schools were created later. In the genesis and development of the law schools the political and theological movements have also played an important role. This course offers the possibility to look more closely into the various theological schools (eg Ash'arites, Māturīdites, Mu'tazilites, Shī'ītes), law schools (mainly Hanafis, Shafi'ītes, Malikites, Hanbalis, Dja'farites, Zaidites), philosophical schools of thought and various mystical movements.
