Acquisition of basic skills for dealing with historic sources and presentations of ancient history as well as skills in presenting the newly acquired knowledge orally as well as in writing. Acquisition of basic knowledge and application of relevant methods aiding scientific research.

The students are aware of scientific working methods, of sources of ancient history, of the world of the poleis in the 5^th and 4^th century BC.

The seminar introduces in scientific working methods and in sources of ancient history. The students examine ancient sources and research literature on the subject “Greek polis”. The focus is on genesis and structure of a polis (like Athens, Sparta), but also on relations of power and gender.

A combination of lecture, advanced practice, joint reading, analysis, discussion.

Cooperation, exercises, test.

Relevant literature will be announced during the course.
