Understanding of questions relating to the philosophy of science through reading and discussing suitable classical or innovative texts of historiography resp., knowledge of developments in research and criticism of paradigms.

The students are aware of theory of history, methodological discussion; they will be able to reflect the goals of history.  

We will examine Greg Woolfs publication “Rome. An Empire’s Story” (Oxford 2012). We will discuss the imperial power of ancient Rome and the power relations which can be developed. In this context we will deal with theories which refer to the imperial turn as well as theories of gender studies.

Introducation given by lecturer, reading, presentation, discussion.

Reading, presentation, participation in discussion,essay (max. 5 pages).
