The course intends to provide the participants with a deeper understanding for the historical developments in the Austrian/Habsburgs territories focusing on the period 1848 to 1918. It will cover core aspects such as the short and long term consequences of the revolutions of 1848, the changing of the economy in various parts of the Monarchy, the rise of new social classes like the middle and the labour class and their political parties, the development of the right to vote, the national question(s), women´s movement, World War I.

oral and/or written exam (will be announced in the first meeting)
Detailed information on literature and mandatory reading according to the workload will be announced in the course.
