Acquisition of basic skills for dealing with historic sources and presentations in Economic and Social History as well as skills in presenting the newly acquired knowledge orally as well as in writing. Acquisition of basic knowledge and application of relevant methods aiding scientific research.

Air is a multifaceted historical object at the intersection of environmental, climatic, gender, medical, emotional, and sensory history. In this course we will deal, among other things, with the medical and cultural history of the cure in the fresh (high-altitude) air, urban air pollution, the peasant and medical practice of weather observations, medical attributions of the effect of air on body and mind and, last but not least, with the Föhn and Föhn moods in the Alps as also a historical phenomenon.

Input presentations of the teacher, group work, discussion of literature, oral and written presentations.

Course with continuous performance assessment: attendance at all sessions, regular and active participation in discussions, readings and short assignments, oral presentation and written paper.
