Traffic and mobility are essential factors in modern times. Tyrol as a region in the mountains has always played an important role in traffic in Europe. Transport and mobility form a cross-cutting topic that has numerous references to political, economic, social, environmental and technological history, as well as to other disciplines such as geography, sociology, economics, ecology, architecture or spatial planning. This seminar not only examines the various forms of transport and mobility in the state of Tyrol since 1945 in their specialist meanings: the railway as the first means of mass transport, fuel-powered modes of transport such as motorcycles, buses and cars as status symbols, the rise of air traffic, bicycle or walking too, but also their infrastructural facilities, economic and social effects and consequences.
