winter semester 2022/2023 | Last update: 19.01.2023 | Place course on memo listStudents acquire a basic knowledge of the current state of women’s and gender research and get an overview of basic findings of critical gender research.
This course offers a historical overview of the beginnings and developments of women's studies and gender studies. Central terms will be discussed, debates and main thinkers of critical gender studies will be introduced. On the basis of source material and secondary texts, the different positions will be discussed. In addition to a chronological overview, the course will focus on the following topics:
- the social construction of gender
- gender and class
- gender and race
- intersectionality
Input by course instructor, class discussions, study groups for source reading and related assignments during the semester and for the preparation of the written exam.
