After this course the participants will have basic knowledge in all essential questions concerning knowledge and technology transfer as well as the handling of intellectual property, especially at universities. The students have basic knowledge about the different protection possibilities, types of protection and strategies, knowledge of patent and copyright law, especially in the fields of natural science, engineering, life sciences and information technology (IT). The participants can use the acquired know-how for non-commercial (publications, etc.) and commercial (licenses, sales, foundation, etc.) exploitation in research and everyday work
The course offers students an overview of protection possibilities, use and exploitation of creative, intellectual achievements - intellectual property. Intellectual property includes technical developments and inventions, software, databases, literary works (publications), trademarks and design. Opportunities and risks for individuals, scientific teams and universities in the use and exploitation of intellectual property are explained and discussed.
The combination of lectures and exercises offers a wide range of different approaches, analysis and discussion, workshops and case studies will be applied.
Assessment is based on an oral examination on the last day of the course and a written paper.
