Learning Outcome:

Knowledge of fundamental principles in mechanics of solids and fluids in consistent representation. Application to elementary problems. Development of practice-oriented formulations (suitable for numerical implementation) and computational methods.

Contents:

Kinematics. Euler-Cauchy equation of motion in Newtonian mechanics. Conservation of momentum and conservation of angular momentum of material and control volumes. The linear single-degree-of-freedom oscillator: free vibrations, force and support excitation. The law of conservation of energy. Bernoulli’s equation of fluid mechanics.

Methods:

"Flipped Classroom"
Lecture part: Self study of video lectures available online in advance; during lecture times questions are answered and appropriate excercises and test examples are discussed (BigBlueButton conference).
Excercises part: Calculation of excercise examples by course participents, which are handed in online in advance (BigBlueButton conference).

Assessment:

Course examination according to § 7, statute section on "study-law regulations".
