Students have advanced knowledge and skills for designing mechatronic systems with the help of computer-aided design and computational tools. They know about interrelations between initial conception, product planning, designing, and product life cycle. They have an overview of state-of-the-art CAE tools (Simulia, ANSYS, e.g.) in the fields of finite element methods (FEM), computational fluid dynamics (CFD), multibody dynamics (MBD), and Multi-physics.

Product life cycle; driving influences on the development of mechanical and mechatronic products; set-up and structure of virtual products; CAE process chains; overview of computer-aided development tools for design and simulation; modelling for computer-aided development; 3D CAD design; digital mock-up (DMU); multibody dynamics simulation (MBD); finite element simulation (FEM); product data management (PDM); CAE-based verification of design concepts; computer-aided design in practice.

The course consists of lecture and exercise parts. The knowledge gained during the lecture is applied and demonstrated in the course of projects and short presentations to develop solutions and/or options for mechanical or mechatronic tasks.

Continuous assessment based on regular written and/or oral contributions of the participants (projects).

Course will be held in e-lecture, if Corona allows it will be changed to face-to-face teaching in WS 21 - same time/will be announced in time.
