103207 VO Scientific Theory and Methodology of Educational Sciences
summer semester 2023 | Last update: 14.09.2023 | Place course on memo listThe students are taught the basics for the formation of a competence of judging in dealing with scientific knowledge. For this purpose, students will deal with historical and systematic discussions about science and the philosophy of science in the context of educational science. In the foreground of the course are reasoning principles, claims to validity and forms of knowledge, on the basis of which the students can reflect the relationship of methodologies and of theory and practice.
The question of how educational science arrives at its knowledge guides this lecture.
This is connected with further questions such as the forms of knowledge in educational science, concepts, theories, models and approaches. With these questions the lecture will reflect on educational science in the light of philosophy and more precisely epistemology.
Specifically, the aim is to understand why a philosophy of science and methodology are also needed in educational science and how both can be systematically elaborated. This sounds abstract, but it becomes tangible and illustrative through examples.
One lecture hour is not enough to delve into every basic theoretical direction, so a selection must be made. It is oriented towards history and discusses educational science concepts that are still effective today, such as Geisteswissenschaftliche Pädagogik, Empirische Erziehungswissenschaft and Kritische Erziehungswissenschaft with an outlook on cultural science approaches.
