A lecture survey of dinosaurs and other extinct reptiles the theories about their life habits and evolution.

Dinosaur science began in Europe and many of the earliest discoveries were European. As a result, there are many dozens of dinosaur exhibits in local museums scattered across the entire continent and they will provide appealing destinations for Innsbruck students as they spend weekends traveling across Europe. Note that one of the largest, most spectacular dinosaur exhibits in the entire world is only a short train ride from Innsbruck -- the Senckenberg Museum in Frankfurt. Students will be encouraged to visit dinosaur exhibits on their own time (hint: extra credit!). Also, the instructor will offer several optional guided tours of the Senckenberg dinosaur halls (hint: more extra credit!) for those who can find their way to Frankfurt. The course will also include official fieldtrips.
This course is the natural selection for a 'general education' science course since it provides abundant opportunity to cover a broad range of related topics (e.g. basic macroeconomics, biological evolution and classification, fundamentals of ecology, the nature of intelligence, logic, basic physics and chemistry, as well as herpetology and avian biology).

The University of New Orleans International Summer School program has a mandatory class attendance policy. All students are required to attend class for all morning classes and any required afternoon and/or weekend fields trips and lectures. No unexcused absences are allowed. However, LFU students who have to miss a UNO class due to LFU examinations in the first two weeks of our program, can receive one excused absence for this. Any further unexcused absences will result in an academic penalty. Each faculty member determines the penalty for missed classes. Most professors deduct a letter grade for each additional missed class day. For details, please refer to your course syllabi, which will be distributed on the first day of class. The listed ECTS credits are a recommendation by the University of New Orleans Innsbruck Summer School, based on contact hours, anticipated out-of-classroom requirements such as field trips, and projected workload for readings, assignments, and exam preparation.
