223007 VO Canon Law: People of God
summer semester 2023 | Last update: 04.07.2023 | Place course on memo listDeepened knowledge of details of the ecclesiastical constitutional law
The Church sees itself as the people of God under hierarchical leadership. The Second Vatican Council emphasized this view. It found its way into the Codex luris Canonici of 1983, especially in Book II, which is entitled "De populo Dei." This book is the basis for the lecture.
After basic questions of ecclesiastical constitutional law have already been addressed in the basic course on canon law of the basic studies, the focus will now be on the details.
It is about the church as the people of God and as a communion, the basic legal status of the individual members of the church, the relationship between priests and laity, and the specific tasks of each.
The hierarchical constitutional structure is particularly evident in the legal status and competence of the pope and the college of bishops, the diocesan bishop, the bishops' conference, and the pastor and his staff.
Special consideration is also given to the bodies at the various levels of the Church (synods; parish council; pastoral council; priests' council, etc.), in which the dialogical and communicative structure of the Church is expressed.
The legal norms are presented, and theological and pastoral questions related to them are discussed. There is also room for the inquiries and problems that have arisen in recent times, not least through Pope Fanziskus, as well as world and local ecclesial aspects.
