224404 VO You are witnesses to this (Luke 24:48): A biblical spirituality of belief in the resurrected
summer semester 2023 | Last update: 20.02.2023 | Place course on memo listWas the tomb really empty? Did the disciples actually meet Jesus, and how does one describe such phenomena? And why should we care? The lecture aims to make it possible to pursue these questions and try to find answers that, on the one hand, give room to justified doubts about the resurrection, but, on the other hand, also enable a responsible formulation of the belief in the resurrection for our time.
After an overview of ancient ideas of life after death, the New Testament texts on the resurrection of Jesus are presented with regard to their significant differences and few similarities. The different texts are associated with very different community situations in order to connect their formulation with very different social and religious contexts. Finally, it is argued that the diversity of the New Testament texts makes it possible to rethink and formulate a belief in the resurrection even today.
