Curr. 2021 § 5 (1) 5: Students understand the logic of the qualitative research paradigm. They know the most common qualitative methods and can apply them to answer a sociological research question. They will be able to analyze qualitative data in a methodologically controlled manner and present the results clearly in the form of a research report. Overall, they are able to create a qualitative research design and independently carry out the entire research process from the research question to the results report. 

The seminar introduces data collection with qualitative interviews. To this end, different types of such interviews (semi-structured guided interviews, narrative interviews) are first presented regarding their characteristics, strengths, and weaknesses. This will be followed by data collection of semi-structured interviews. For this purpose, we will generate suitable questionnaires, conduct interviews, and (partially) transcribe them. We will also discuss data protection questions, research ethics, and quality criteria in this context.
