The  graduates  have  basic  methodological  and  theoretical  knowledge  of  media  and communication research and are able to critically assess research results. Furthermore, they have a basic understanding of the applicability of theories of media and communication studies.

Building a sound knowledge of basic terms, concepts and theories in media and communication studies.

This course provides an introduction to theories in media and communication studies. We start with some basic concepts - including society, media, and communication - before we proceed with an in-depth analysis of media and media structures. In the third and last part of the course, we deal with media content and how it comes into being - from journalism to public relations.

Similar to a lecture, this course centers around the provision of input by the lecturer. Nevertheless, your active participation in this course is expected (e.g. iparticipation in discussions and the submission of assignments).

I will check the learning progress with multiple written assignments throughout the semester.
