summer semester 2023 | Last update: 31.01.2023 | Place course on memo listYou shall enhance your ability to grasp economic realities in their complexity and in interaction with societal developments and, based on this, develop appropriate action strategies.
Competences like systematic, critial reading and summarizing of texts; researching and structuring on information; systemic thinking; substantial discussing and self-organized collaboration in teams will be strengthened in this course.
The actual focus is on sustainability and inequality issues.
Central for the course is the concept of "Doughnut Economics" by Kate Raworth. The elements of economics "fit" for the 21st century will be developed collectively and highlighted critically. Complementary, the UN sustainable development goals (SDGs) will be discussed in their national and global dimension. At the end of the semester, the integrated application of the knowledge gained will take place.
Because of my personal background, the course ist grounded in economics (not management) and my particular viewpoint is targeted at historical structures.

Further literature will be announced.
The first preliminary session (March 7) will be ONLINE, but the actual course (from Marc h14) will be a PRESENCE activity in Innsbruck throughout. Participation in the preliminary session (or excuse in advance) is nevertheless compulsory to confirm your enrollment.

- SDG 12 - Responsible consumption and production: Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns.
- SDG 13 - Climate action: Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts by regulating emissions and promoting developments in renewable energy.
- SDG 14 - Life below water: Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development.
- SDG 15 - Life on land: Protect, restore and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, and halt and reverse land degradation and halt biodiversity loss.
- SDG 16 - Peace, justice and strong institutions: Promote peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development, provide access to justice for all and build effective, accountable and inclusive institutions at all levels.
- SDG 17 - Partnerships for the goals: Strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize the global partnership for sustainable development.
