The objective of the PhD seminar is to provide an overview of qualitative methods and research designs for management research. The seminar should enable participants to appreciate the potential of qualitative research in management/business studies; to understand different qualitative designs and methods; to appreciate the role of theory in qualitative research; and to plan their own qualitative research project.

Introduction to qualitative research; overview of qualitative research designs; role of theory in qualitative research; case study design; methods of qualitative data collection (in particular interviewing); data analysis (coding, theorization); writing up qualitative research; publishing qualitative research

The seminar consists of input sessions on different qualitative methods and research designs. These input sessions are complemented by in-class discussions and group work on specific questions and topics. In addition, participants will work independently on some assignments, which we will then discuss in class.
