Knowledge of educational, migration and philosophical discourses on solidarity; reflection on solidarity practices in the age of globalization; experience in transdisciplinary project work.

Global challenges strengthen the human longing for solidarity. Such a desire for solidarity makes people optimistic and is linked to our involvement in social relationships and the desire and need to recognize ourselves in the other. Solidarity can therefore be read as an interwoven and interacting practice of self-protection and human cohesion, and as a willingness to help others even if this means giving up one's own freedoms, entitlements, and resources. At the same time, solidarity remains a fragile, contradictory, and mutable endeavor-dependent on political moods and public willingness. In times of global challenges, solidarity alliances are not infrequently guided by a methodological nationalism and often stop at perceived identity or nation-state boundaries. Examples - such as the civil society sea rescue of the association "Sea-Watch" in the summer of 2019 with Carola Rackete as captain - have not yet disappeared from public memory and the archives of solidarity. They show the national, legal and police pressure with which civil actions in support of people who have fled are repeatedly pushed into a gray area of what is permissible, under threat of massive criminal sanctions. Also in view of global pandemics, wars, health crises and environmental disasters, the question continuously arises how the great idea of solidarity can contribute to a cosmopolitan and sustainable understanding of the world in the age of migration and globalization. Initial reflections on this can be to look at solidarity from the experience of migration: Where is thinking beyond nation-state borders in the name of solidarity? Such a perspective invites not to conceal hegemonic reductions of solidarity, but to make it the starting point of a cosmopolitan penetration of the concept - so that human relations in a global world are not limited, but expanded, and solidarity does not find its way to a nation-state, but multi-nation understanding.
