This exercise introduces corpus linguistic research and statistical analysis of language data. Participants will learn how to use these tools through exercises and gain insight into some corpus linguistic and statistical methods.

A corpus is a collection of authentic language data in a quantity that is too large for human reading and therefore has to be processed computer-aided. Such digitized corpora are suitable for computer-assisted (linguistic) research and allow numerical evaluations that use statistical methods to draw conclusions about language use in the data.

Blended learning approach: partially asynchronous e-learning formats (input videos and exercise tasks) are offered alternating with consolidation and discussion in synchronous meetings

Attendance and cooperation at the meetings (compensation for missing units).

Write two short wiki articles in OLAT on important corpus linguistic terms

Hand in the exercises on time
