The seminar provides insight into the relationship between language, visuals, marketing strategies and gender stereotypes, by investigating the strategies employed in the representation of gender in contemporary advertising discourse.

Students will receive some insights into the complex relationship between language, visuals, and  the representation of femininity and masculinity in advertising. They will be able to identify the most salient discursive strategies employed in contemporary advertising discourse.

The seminar will primarily employ the methods developed in Critical Discourse Analysis  (CDA).

Regular and active participation in weekly sessions (presentation, participation in class activities, workshops) and a term paper
